Play House - Although this large painting is meant to look like a normal visual study of a still life, it holds this significant meaning to me entering adulthood as I transition from my teenage years to adulthood. Therefore, this painting is meant to capture the memories that we have as children and playing with whatever objects are more accessible to us in order to craft a narrative. Indicating that through both our personal experiences and memories, we can understand and process our creativity without the aid of rules or directions.
Morning Routine - This piece inspired by Piet Mondrian’s “Composition II: Red, Blue and Yellow”, is meant to illustrate the natural routine of individuals waking up and experiencing their first movements in the morning. I am able to emphasize this through the use of thick outlines I produced from the grid and bright/ cool jewel tones to zoom in on certain parts of the body. In doing this the observer is able to relate to the content that is presented to them because the first thing that we often see in the morning from the moment we wake up and look in the mirror is ourselves. Illustrating that some if not all of us observe ourselves with the harshest critics out of the fears of being judged.
Entangled Anxiety - Upon observing this piece at first glance it is quite obvious to see what subject matter has influenced the resulting final product. In response to the persisting pandemic our relationships with one another have been skewed as we tend to self-isolate from those who are not afraid to congregate around us. More importantly, this piece is not only meant to represent the anxiety that we have developed as a society but more importantly talk about the struggles of social anxiety we face when meeting new people.
Bittersweet, Sour, Summer Plums - One observing this piece at first glance it is clear to interpret this as a basic visual study of two plums. While that is mainly true it also reflects the bittersweet aspects of our experiences when we happen to be compared to others for the sake of the mistakes we produce in our work as artists. Illustrating that although criticism is necessary and constructive, it can also be proven to be destructive not only as a result of a fragile ego but a result of personal inadequacy and this underlying feeling of self doubt.
Lady Enthroned - Despite being a simple visual study of the human form, this piece is meant to depict the relaxation one can find in their journey through self acceptance and maturity. That being said I am still on the path of trying to navigate life as well as figuring what may be the best option for me as an artist and human being muddling through life.
Female Eggsploitation - This sculpture focuses on the adultification of America's youth through the use of social media. Which is why this is a sculpture of an egg.
The Golden Throne - This sculpture embodies one's pride and narcissistic perception of one's self through lies, being showered in compliments as well as developing an overly inflated ego of one's self.
Throne of Insecurity - This miniature sculpture is a companion piece to "The Golden Throne". That being said this is meant to represent the exposure of an individual's true nature after the glorious facade has faded. It it a piece that claims that the truth bears a significant amount of weight on the phsyche
Funny Face 2: Little Sister - Intended to be a self portrait, this piece is emblematic of the bond one shares with their older sibling. While at the same time maintaining a range of insecurity out of the fear of being compared to the elder sibling.
Funny Face 1: Big Brother - This portrait is not only emblematic of the relationship that individuals share with their siblings but the resentment of the elder sibling in spite of your differences . while at the same time acknowledging how an individual shares a lot in common with their siblings despite differences in age. Meaning those experiences are shared.
Entangled Entrapment - This piece is more of a personal observational study that puts an emphasis on one's personal space being violated by overstepping the individuality of the personal boundaries one withholds.
Yamm - This is Yamm. An alien who fell from the sky who tries to get accustomed to human life on Earth. She was created in out of the personal need for one to seek comfort amongst the chaos and hardships of life by focusing on the good aspects that life has to offer.
It's Three In the Morning in Roscoe - This drawing is about the serene loneliness one feels in a place that is familiar to them. Essentially becoming alien and isolating to the one who feels like life was once familiar.
Do Not Take the Right to Choose Away - This drawing is meant to reflect the memories of anger that both I and many other women face over the decision of the United States government to own our bodies and the right to do whatever we please with them. More importantly, this piece was made in response to abortion ban laws being passed in states like Texas, Los Angeles and South Dakota.
Three Hundred Sixty Five days of Basement Studio Work - Once again this is a piece that demonstrates the universal experience of being forced to work and live at home during a global pandemic. That being said it is meant to highlight this combination of comfort yet longing to be released in a search for achieving a sense of normalcy. This is most evidently true for most artists, especially in coming artists of the twenty-first century, because we are individuals with the sole purpose of both exploring and appreciating life in a creative or visual way.
Motel Lamp in Lake George - This is a serene moment of life frozen in time during the worst points in human existence. In addition to the rise of Covid and the lack of anyone's ability to travel far, the only option for artists of the visual world is to consume and acknowledge the world around them when they are captured and frozen in time.
Galactic Glass Gummy Bear - This is a comically large gummy bear.
Why Not - We often feel a lot of anxiety when we wonder why our lives are in the state that they are in. We get overwhelmed and drown.
Social stresses - This is another piece that is emblematic of social anxiety. It is the feeling that one experiences in a public space that is heavily populated. Think about a crowd in the city or a crowded train car and the anxiety that entails when it comes to social situations.
Regular Within Irregular - This is not only an exploration of color, but one of harmony. That being said each painting in this set is distinct but are connected through various dynamics of color that exist in the existing world.
From Success to Failure - This piece was made from an improperly mixed block of plaster and is there fore emblematic of learning from your mistakes. Indicating that the best results can come from our mistakes as we can rebound and learn from them.
Sweet Apple Afternoon Tea - This painting represents the more finer aspects of life and an appreciation for the finer things in life. It is a shame that life and all of its chaos has persisted over extended periods of time as to worry about the aspects as to what is consider to be "right" and what is considered to be "wrong". Allowing for duality to exist within the mundane.
Adolescent Hyperfixation - This collage is meant to put an emphasis on the joys of sharing certain interests in common with another person. Highlighting the positive memories and experiences that are expressed in places such as fandoms, art movements or favorite subjects while simultaneously putting an emphasis on the unpleasant memories of not being able to communicate with someone who happens to not be interested in the same media as you.
Escape to the City Scape - this is just an observational study of the top of a building while remaining stationed in traffic. Life would probably seem to fleeting to the naked eye as a result of something seeming so silent.
